Variable Gain Amplifier

Fri, 06/29/2001 - 4:56am
M/A-COM introduces a new voltage variable gain amplifier to complement their existing gain block amplifier family (AM55-0029, AM55-0024 and AM55-0023). The AM55-0027 integrates a digitally controlled attenuator with 3 stages of amplification. This amplifier has 0.25 dB attenuation steps over a range of 10 dB. It is a single positive supply device with a serial control interface. This function is accomplished in a 5 mm MLP (FQFP) leadless surface mount plastic package.

This amplifier is particularly useful as a variable gain block in a feedforward correction loop as well as in a transmit amplifier chain. The AM55-0027 is controlled through a serial interface with 3 lines (data, latch and clock). It is a single GaAs MMIC chip device in a low cost plastic package. This multi-function approach enables precise gain control and its versatility allows it to be used in numerous applications. This results in an overall lower system cost. The AM55-0027 operates from 1.94 to 2.34 GHz, making it ideal for emerging 3G wireless communications standards. M/A-COM, 100 Chelmsford Street, Lowell, MA 01851; 1-800-366-2267; www.macom.com
