CAN-megaBOX features a powerful AMD-Elan controller with up to 128MB SDRAM, with up to 2MB bootFLASH and internal RTC, and 100Mbit Ethernet interface. Additionally, 8 opto-isolated bits of user I/O can be used for local control or data-gathering. CAN-megaBOX can be used as a CANbus monitor, sending filtered data via Ethernet to other nodes, or sent locally to a printer. Other ideal applications for CAN-megaBOX are as routers between remote CANbus networks (further than 1km) or as http-servers, allowing an internet browser to assess machine process data. Because CAN-megaBOX is PC-compatible with keyboard and mouse ports, a wide variety of operating systems can be used (Linux, OS-9, QNX, VxWorks, Windows, etc.)
CANbus is a high-integrity serial data communications bus for real-time applications which operates at data rates of up to 1 Mbits/s; it has excellent error detection and confinement capabilities. Originally developed for use in cars, CANbus is now being used in many other industrial automation, instrumentation and control applications.
