TVS Devices for ESD Protection

Mon, 04/30/2001 - 6:15am
ProTek Devices has introduced the PSMF05/12 Series TVS devices, which are designed for ESD protection of handheld electronics such as cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras and PCMCIA cards. Configured with four, unidirectional TVS diodes in an SC70-5L plastic package, the new series protects up to four I/O and/or power ports, and features silicon-avalanche technology which provides lower leakage current and protection voltage than other technologies.

The PSMF05/12 Series devices are available in two key power or data line voltages, either 5 or 12 volts. Other voltages may be available upon request. They are rated for 200 watts of peak pulse power for a pulse duration of 20 μs, and provide protection against low inductive switching transients, as well as ESD up to 25 kV. SPICE parameters and circuit models are available for circuit simulations in key applications.

The new series' small package allows for placement near a connector or contact terminal exposed to the outside of the system case. This location is important in limiting the effects of EMI/RFI radiation to other sensitive components. The devices meets the requirements of ESD per IEC 61000-4-2 (EN 61000-4-2) and EFT per IEC 61000-4-4 (EN 61000-4-4).
