QUALCOMM announced that the QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT) MSP1000 mobile station applications processor sampled as planned in December 2000. The MSP1000 device enables integration of advanced multimedia features, including support for streaming video using PacketVideo's PVPlayer Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-4) streaming media decoder, Java-enabled applications, games, m-commerce, navigation and e-books. The MSP1000 device facilitates implementation of these high-performance functions in a system that includes one of QCT's Mobile Station Modem (MSM) integrated circuits and the Wireless Internet Launchpad suite. QCT's Wireless Internet Launchpad suite of advanced technologies and software includes MPEG-4 streaming video, gpsOne, position-location capabilities featuring SnapTrack technology, Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, R-UIM (Removable User Identification Module), and multimedia features such as MP3 player software support and CMX MIDI-based multimedia software.
QCT's MSP1000 solution incorporates an ARM® microprocessor with a full suite of integrated peripherals specifically targeted toward handheld devices. It provides a direct and seamless interface to QCT's family of MSM integrated circuits and radio solutions for second and third-generation (3G) standards, providing wireless device manufacturers with flexibility in product segmentation. Using a single system design, manufacturers can develop a wide variety of platforms with unique feature sets by selecting from QCT's range of pin-compatible MSM integrated circuits. The MSP1000 integrated circuit supports most popular handheld operating systems, including Symbian, Microsoft Windows® CE and other proprietary systems.
