Handheld Diagnostic Monitor

Mon, 04/30/2001 - 6:15am
Spirent Communications released the PocketDM, a handheld diagnostic monitor for analyzing IS-95 and IS-2000 CDMA devices and network performance. PocketDM, a lightweight and convenient tool, consists of a feature-rich Diagnostic Monitor application and the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC. This new product is based on the Universal Tool Suite (UTS) architecture that allows diagnostic and provisioning applications to be manufacturer and chipset independent.

The PocketDM is a Pocket PC application that includes the most commonly used CDMA diagnostic monitor functions. These functions include IS-95A/B and IS-2000 Over-The-Air (OTA) message logging with integrated message decoding, and the real-time display of Tx/Rx/Adj Power, Finger Energies, and Pilot List. The PocketDM also provides a playback feature in which previously logged OTA data can be played back at a user selectable rate.

PocketDM is the first Universal Tool Suite application announced by Spirent. The UTS will include a complete line of 2G and 3G diagnostic and provisioning solutions based on the manufacturer-independent UTS software architecture. UTS applications are manufacturer and chipset independent by isolating application user interfaces from the device interfaces. This isolation is accomplished through the development and use of Universal Device Drivers (UDDs). The UDDs provide a standardized interface through the UTS Interface Specifications while protecting manufacturer's intellectual property associated with the monitoring and control of their devices. A UTS Software Development Kit (SDK) is available from Spirent to facilitate UDD and application development. The SDK includes the Interface Specification and a Test Client for verifying the UDD functionality.
