GaAs FET Digital Attenuators

Mon, 04/30/2001 - 6:15am
M/A-COM, a brand of Tyco Electronics, announced a new family of digital attenuators with integral TTL/CMOS ASIC drivers. The AT90 series of attenuators improve insertion loss and attenuation accuracy in systems that require a low-profile, high-density multi-chip module solution. Applications include all gain control and amplitude/power leveling circuits common to communications applications. Their innovative micro leadless (6 mm × 4 mm) surface-mounted multi-chip module packages (FQFP-N) integrate GaAs MMIC attenuator and silicon-based CMOS ASIC driver circuitry in order to maximize performance, free up board space and achieve the cost targets of high-volume manufacturing.

Developed to provide a variety of dynamic range and step size options for multi-mode transmit and receive systems, the AT90 family portfolio includes single-supply 5 V and dual-supply ± 5 V devices that operate over a wide frequency range (DC to as high as 6 GHz) with 15.5 dB, 31 dB, 31.5 dB and 50 dB attenuation in 0.5 dB or 1 dB steps. Low current operation (0.2 mA for dual supply and 5 mA for single supply) make them attractive for emerging low-power, high-frequency applications. Attenuation accuracy is guaranteed as low as ± 0.3 dB + 4% of attenuation over its entire operating frequency with a maximum 3.1 dB insertion loss.
