Surface Mount LED

Fri, 03/02/2001 - 5:45am
Lumex introduced a new series of right-angle surface mount technology (SMT) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that solve the off-the-board height problem traditionally associated with this type of device. Lumex's new SMF-LX2432 Series features a 1.4 mm (0.055 inch) distance between the light center of the LED and the top of the circuit board, as opposed to the more common 0.6 mm (0.024 inch). This increased height allows designers of panel or fault indicators, backlighting overlays, and keypad edgelighting systems more off-the-board height, to enhance visibility away from the edges of the case.

Lumex's new right-angle SMT LEDs offer a compact one-piece construction and are available in either common anode or common cathode configurations. Single color units, bi-color 2-chip units, and RGB units are available. A three half-tunnel contact layout facilitates connections to drive the multi-color units.

All SMF-LX2432 units feature AlInGaP or InGaN die formulations for maximum light efficiency. Typical light output level is 60 mcd at an If of 20 mA for the red (636 mm) version, with a typical viewing angle of 110°.

Lumex's right-angle SMT LEDs are available on reels of standard 8 mm tape for use with automatic placement equipment; quantity is 1000 pieces per reel.
