Shuttered Power Outlets

Wed, 02/21/2001 - 9:09am
Schurter's new shuttered outlets have a unique shuttering feature to protect against shock from otherwise exposed contacts, and prevent the ingress of dust and dirt into the unit.

The special shutters are plastic slides that cover the Line and Neutral (L&N) contacts. The shutters' movement, similar to a camera shutter, allows access to the contact pins when the plug is inserted. When the plug is removed, the shutters spring back immediately to cover the contacts. The covered contacts protect against shock when the outlet is "hot" (not being used when the equipment power is on).

Outlets are available in both screw–on (Type 4721) and snap–in (Type 4723) versions. Type 4723 fits various panel thicknesses ranging from 1.0 to 3.0 mm. The shutters are standard on both types of outlets.

The outlets fit into the same panel cutout as Schurter's unshuttered series 6600. they conform to IEC/EN60320 – 2 – 2/F Class I II types, and are VDE 10A/250VAC and cUL 15A/250VAC approved. Applications include portable electronic devices for medical and industrial equipment, power supplies, and test and measuring devices. Schurter's outlets are also supplied in strips up to six.
