Brigham Young University (BYU) , in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and world-renowned origami expert, Robert Lang, have created a solar array that can be tightly compacted for launch and then deployed in space to generate power for space stations or satellites. By applying origami principles, the solar array would be capable to unfold to nearly 10 times its stored size.
The European Space Agency is planning to launch a space mission in 2034 that will study the universe in a completely new way. The mission , known as eLISA , will detect ripples in the fabric of space-time, known as gravitational waves, which are created by celestial objects with very strong gravity, expanding the way in which the universe is observed.
