HotSpot Episode 19: Real-Time, Non-Invasive Brain Trauma Diagnostics

- Sense+ has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign via indiegogo  for its Smoke and Gas Sensor smart dock and app, which combines the latest smoke/carbon monoxide detectors with a fully programmable response. Featuring built-in photo electric smoke and gas detection sensors, the sense+ is intended as an additional level of protection to "in-house" smoke alarms by providing advance warning so a user can react.
- Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley  have developed a new technology that uses wireless  signals to provide real-time, non-invasive diagnosis of brain swelling or bleeding. Analyzing data from low energy electromagnetic waves, the technology could potentially become a cost-effective tool for medical diagnostics and to triage injuries in areas where access to medical care, especially medical imaging, is limited.
- A recent kickstarter campaign from Cermetek Microelectronics , is promoting the iController , a hardware/Cloud-based system providing the ability to monitor and control any sensor equipped process or device. The iController provides users with the ability to monitor any sensor equipped process, appliance, equipment or device and to remotely control systems in response to that sensor data. Because the user interfaces to the iController via the Internet, data and control are always within reach.
- A new system developed by MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory called WiVi, is using low-power Wi-Fi signals to track moving humans — even behind walls. Similar to radar and sonar imaging, the system uses two transmit antennas and a receiver to create two signals that interfere with each other in such a way as to cancel each other out, creating reflections that are then used to tack moving humans behind the wall.
