Modulator Driver Targets 40-Gb/s Lightwave Systems
Narda Microwave-East’s FO-MDA-40-25G-1 lithium niobate modulator driver serves 300-pin MSA transponders employed in DPSK long-reach 40-Gb/s lightwave communication systems. The 1.10” × 1.10” × 0.34” device produces an eye pattern with electronic eye-crossing control from 40 to 70%. The unit demonstrates a 3-dB bandwidth from 85 kHz to 40 GHz, gain of 29 dB, input and output return loss of 12 dB, rms additive jitter of 550 ps, rise and fall times (20 to 80%) of 10 ps, and a max. data rate of 43 Gb/s. The component offers output power up to 8 Vpp with an input voltage of 450 mVpp; variable amplitude from 0.50 Vpp to 8 Vpp and 3.30-VDC and 5-VDC power requirements. The driver operates from 0ºC to 70ºC with GPPO connectors.
