Motorola released its newest offering, the MRF9100. This device is a high power RF transistor in the industry that offers input matching via die integration, which provides additional space for the output matching at 900MHz. In a typical base station application, as the power increases, the input and output impedances of RF power transistors decrease, making the matching more difficult. By integrating the passive elements on the MRF9100 device, efficient input internal pre-match is achieved on-chip, allowing room for the output pre-match within the size constraints of the package. The result is superior performance over a significantly larger bandwidth.
The MRF9100 is a single-ended device that has been fully characterized and tested to operate in the GSM 921 to 960 MHz frequency band, as well as various cellular bands in the 800 to 900 MHz range. The high gain and broadband performance of the device makes it ideal for large-signal, common source amplifier applications in 26-volt base station equipment.
