Maxwell Technologies introduces the 7846RP, a 16-Bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) microcircuit for space flight applications. The product features a greater than 100 kilorad (Si) total dose tolerance, depending on orbit, and includes both negative and positive reference inputs and an on-chip output amplifier, which gives the option of unipolar or bipolar output. The 7846RP uses a segmented architecture. The four most significant bits (MSB) in the DAC latch selects one of the segments in a resistor string. Both taps of the segment are buffered by amplifiers and fed to a 12-bit DAC, which provides a further 12 bits of resolution. This architecture ensures 16-bit monotonicity.
Capable of surviving space environments, this products is ideal for satellite, spacecraft, and space probe missions. The 7846RP incorporates Maxwell's patented Rad-Pak® radiation shielding technology to provide the required space mission lifetime. This product is available with packaging and screening up to Class S.
