High-voltage analog integrated circuit specialist, Power Integrations, Inc., announced the availability of the latest version of PI Expert , the company's software program which significantly reduces the amount of time to design an optimized switching power supply. As with its predecessor, users simply enter their power supply input requirements, output requirements, and optimization preferences. In less than five mouse-clicks, the program determines the critical components needed for a working switch mode power supply, including the best TOPSwitch® power IC, input capacitor, and complete design details for the transformer. The transformer is usually the most difficult and time-consuming portion of the design process.
Version 2.5 of the PC-based design program includes a variety of design enhancements, including support for the company's new TOPSwitch-GX product family, the industry's first monolithic high-voltage power conversion IC capable of delivering up to 250 Watts. Other enhancements include DC input capability and an enhanced calculation engine for improved accuracy. In addition, the new version contains demonstration files presented in Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean languages. A complete library of the company's data sheets, application notes, and design tools are also included on the CD-ROM.
