Intellectual Ventures’ Global Head of Technology Dr. Patrick Ennis Set to Kick Off IMS2013
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intellectual Ventures’ Global Head of Technology Dr. Patrick Ennis will serve as plenary session speaker on Monday, June 3 at the IEEE MTT-S 2013 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) , kicking off a full schedule of 160 technical sessions and more than 550 exhibitors.
In his opening keynote, “Invention Capital: Why the World Needs More of It,” Dr. Ennis will address how researchers from a variety of scientific and technical fields can optimize the value-creation chain. With his diverse expertise and more than 25 years of experience as a scientist, engineer, businessman and venture capitalist, Dr. Ennis will draw upon his broad reach across fields to connect the dots on the need for invention and creativity, and how to bring it all to life.

At Intellectual Ventures, Dr. Ennis focuses on the intersection of innovation and technology to set and implement investment strategy for a global invention capital fund. Researchers rely heavily on these funds to supply labs with equipment, staff and to finalize their scientific research. Dr. Ennis leads an international group of more than 50
interdisciplinary professionals who help deploy invention capital funds in excess of $5 billion to researchers around the world.
Prior to his current role at Intellectual Ventures, Dr. Ennis was the managing director of ARCH Venture Partners, where he was responsible for identifying, funding and building startups. Preceding his time in the venture capital industry, he held senior technology positions with Lucent Technologies, AT&T and Bell Labs. Dr. Ennis also conducted research in nuclear physics from 1984 to 1992 at universities and national labs in North America and Europe.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School; a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science and Master of Philosophy in Physics from Yale University; and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from the College of William and Mary. Additionally, Dr. Ennis is a member of the Visiting Committee of the College of Engineering at the University of Washington (UW), a member of the TechNet Executive Counsel and an advisory board member at UW’s Center of Commercialization.
