Registration Opens for IEEE WCNC 2012 - April 1 - 4 in Paris, France

The IEEE Wireless Communications & Networking Conference (WCNC 2012) has initiated the registration process for its annual event to be held April 1 – 4 at the Palais des Congrès – Porte Maillot in Paris, France. Devoted to the entire range of wireless communications and networking technologies, IEEE WCNC 2012 will include 620 technical papers delivered throughout four tracks, nine tutorials, seven workshops, four keynotes and eight business panels exploring topics ranging from the latest advances in digital cellular, PCS, multimedia and wireless networking technologies to channel modeling, radio resource management and emerging mobile applications.

UPM Sells its RFID Business to SMARTRAC

UPM has reached an agreement with SMARTRAC N.V. whereby UPM sells its RFID business to SMARTRAC. UPM will become an indirect shareholder of SMARTRAC with a 10.6 percent economic interest through the company OEP Technologie B.V. The closing of the deal is expected to take place during the first quarter of 2012.

According to the latest research from Informa Telecoms & Media, awareness of Smart TVs remains low as UK retailers fail to educate consumers of their benefits and provide even the most basic information regarding connected-TV features. Informa estimates that 35% of all TVs sold this year will be “smart”, however, this is a result of Internet connectivity becoming a “default” technology in more and more TV sets as standard, rather than an increase in consumer demand.

AT4 wireless is pleased to announce that has been authorized by CTIA to conduct testing to new version 3.1 of the CTIA OTA Test Plan. Kindle Fire Software Update Doesn’t Fix Laggy Browser

As reported earlier Tuesday, Amazon has released a software update for its Kindle Fire tablet, promising enhanced “fluidity and performance” and improved “touch navigation responsiveness.” But nowhere in its update language does Amazon speak to improvements in the speed of its Silk browser. As it turns out, the new software update doesn’t seem to improve browser performance to a significant degree.

Google Nexus Tablet Could Be Released In The Next 6 Months

On Monday, The Next Web pointed out an interview between Google Chairman Eric Schmidt and Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera in which Schmidt spoke of the possibility of the web giant releasing a new tablet within the next six months. Schmidt says that Google "plan[s] to market a tablet of the highest quality," although TNW is quick to point out that the Italian-language interview was transcribed into English via Google Translate and might be a little vague.
