Hundreds of Leading Global Experts to Address Latest Advances in Voice, Data, Image & Multimedia Technologies at IEEE ICC 2013
Five-day international event to be held June 9 - 13 in Budapest, Hungary expands agenda to include nearly 1,500 presentations dedicated to wireless and wireline communications.
New York, NY -- The 2013 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), the leading international venue dedicated to the advancement of wireless and wireline communications, has expanded its comprehensive learning schedule with the addition of hundreds of senior telecommunications experts dedicated to the advance of the latest voice, data, image & multimedia technologies worldwide. Held in the Central European cultural and industrial center of Budapest, Hungary from June 9 – 13, 2013, this includes the hosting of more than 1,500 industrial, business and technological presentations attended by thousands of professionals, scientists, academics and government officials representing more than 50 separate countries.
Themed “Bridging the Broadband Divide,” IEEE ICC 2013 will commence on Sunday, June 9 with nearly 20 workshops and tutorials dedicated to subjects like “Optical-wireless Integrated Technology for Systems and Networks,” “Cooperative and Cognitive Networks (CoCoNet5),” “Beyond LTE-A,” “Telecommunications Standards: From Research to Standards,” “Network Coding from Theory to Practice,” “Self-organizing Networks (SON): From Conception to Realisation” and “Power Line Communications: Modeling Algorithms and Applications.”
Over the next three days, the conference’s extensive technical and executive agenda will then proceed with hundreds of original paper presentations, keynotes, business and industry panels and social events designed to further career opportunities and the in-depth understanding of the latest communications advancements worldwide. Agenda highlights will include the keynotes of numerous noted communications authorities such as Dr. Gerhard P. Fettweis, cfAED Scientific Director and Coordinator & Vodafone Chair Professor at TU Dresden, Germany, who will begin Monday morning with his address on “What Will it Be: The Tactile Internet” and his thoughts on future applications, the implementation of new physical air interfaces using their impact on making the planet a better and safer place. Other prominent keynotes will be delivered by:
- Erik Dahlman, Senior Expert in Radio Access Technologies at Ericsson Research, who will speak on “Wireless Access for the Future Networked Society” and the many challenges that must be overcome to make it a reality.
- Walter Goldenits, Chief Technology & IT Officer of Magyar Telekom, who will confront the “Transformation From a Traditional Telco Provider to a Multiservice Community Enabler” and the steps taken by his company to enter various non-traditional telco market segments like satellite TV broadcasting, retail electricity and gas distribution, media and insurance.
- Thomas Wiegand, Head of the Image Processing Department at Fraunhofer HHI & Chair of Image Communication at TU Berlin, who will talk on “Advances in High Definition & 3D Video Coding” and the new standards enabling scalable video coding and autostereoscopic 3D video.
- Peter Winzer, Director of Optical Transmission Systems & Network Research at Bell Labs, Alcatel-Lucent, who will address “Optical Transport in Going MIMO” and the new technologies required for enabling fiber-optic transport systems to Pbit/s capacities and beyond.
In addition, Monday through Wednesday will also feature the presentations of one dozen invited speakers as well as 10 industry & business panels discussing the latest developments in areas such as “Quality of End User Experience (QoE) for Network Services,” “3D Multimedia for Entertainment,” “Future Network Technologies,” “Wireless Myths, Realities and Futures,” “Cloud Computing & Communication,” “The Internet of Things,” “Inter-Vehicle Communication,” “Collaborative Programs in Green Communications,” “Horizon 2020: Europe’s Major New Collaborative Research Programme” and “Wireless 100Gb/s and Beyond.” Also included among the dais of distinguished speakers are:

- Michalis Matthaiou of Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, who will comment on “Optimal Linear Receivers for Large-Scale Multiuser MIMO Systems”.
- David Gesbert, Head of the Mobile Communications Department in EURECOM, France, who will speak about “Discriminating Against Interference in Massive MIMO Systems”.
- Ralf Muller of the Institute of Digital Transmission at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, who will discuss “Pilot Decontamination Based on Power Controlled Hand-Off”.
- Giuseppe Caire of the University of Southern California, who will address “The Role of Caching in 5G Wireless Networks”
Another key component to the conference’s extensive technical program is the nearly 1,000 peer-reviewed original papers that will be delivered across 176 individual sessions from June 10 – 12. This includes details of the latest research, applications and services in machine-to-machine communications, wireless sensor networking, intelligent vehicular networking, mobile consumer health care, smart grid communications & networking, cognitive radio & green networking and the future Internet.
