iPad Tops Kids’ Wish Lists for This Holiday Season
Parents, get ready to hit up the Apple Store during the holidays if you want to keep your kids happy.
Nearly half of kids between the ages of 6-12 are interested in getting an iPad in the next six months, making it by far the most-wanted device for this age group of the holiday season for the third consecutive year, according to a new Nielsen survey of 3,000 kids in the U.S. In fact, the percentage of young kids who expressed an interest in the iPad increased from 44 percent in 2011 to 48 percent this year, suggesting that the product’s cool factor is still rising among this age group.
Meanwhile, the iPad Mini — Apple’s recently released smaller tablet, which some suggested is better suited for kids — ranked fourth on the list, with 36% of those surveyed expressing an interesting in getting one.
Four of the top five tech products on kids’ wish lists for the holiday season were iDevices, showing just how popular Apple is among young children. The lone exception was the Nintendo Wii U, which ranked second.
It’s not just young children who are pining for an Apple product this holiday season. About a fifth of teenagers surveyed expressed interest in the iPad, making it the most in-demand gift for the holiday season among this age group. The iPhone ranked fifth on this list.
The iPad Mini, on the other hand, barely cracked the top 10. Just 11% of teenagers surveyed expressed an interest in buying the smaller tablet, suggesting that Apple still has its work cut out for it in marketing the new device to this demographic.
What’s worse, the demand for the iPad among this age group declined slightly year-over-year. Some 21% of those 13 and older said they were interested in buying an iPad, compared to 24% who said so the year before. At this rate, it may no longer be at the top of the list come next holiday season.
