Apple Loses Appeal in Tablet Patent Dispute With Samsung
In July, Britain’s High Court ruled in favor of Samsung, explaining that Samsung’s Galaxy tablet, despite certain similarities, is simply “not as cool” as the iPad, and can therefore not be confused with that device.
The court’s ruling is valid throughout Europe, not only in the UK, which should end the patent dispute between the two companies — at least when it comes to tablets.
As expected, Samsung welcomed the judge’s decision. “We continue to believe that Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners,” the company said in a statement.
The tablet patent war in the UK is still not over, though, as Apple has the option to appeal this decision to the UK’s Supreme Court.
