WASHINGTON -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Powerwave Technologies, Inc. today opened its Washington D.C. office that is dedicated to supporting the company’s government business solutions. Powerwave’s government solutions business is focused on providing wireless broadband infrastructure solutions to the defense, homeland security, public safety and other government-related agencies. The opening was marked by a gala event and panel discussion that drew leading industry and government speakers.

Jake MacLeod, vice president of Powerwave’s government solutions business, will head up the new office and oversee strategic direction, business development and sales and marketing efforts. Jake MacLeod’s career in telecommunications spans more than 30 years, throughout which he helped pioneer advances in both the wire line and wireless industries. MacLeod was named one of the top ten CTOs in the D.C. area in the government contracting industry by ExecBiz Magazine in 2009, and serves on numerous industry boards of directors – including The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) – and is vice chair of the Communications Research Division of the TIA.

“Powerwave is the right choice for mission-critical secure wireless networks for government applications because we are an experienced and reliable leader in the commercial wireless market, providing wireless coverage and capacity solutions to meet surging mobile broadband demand,” said Ronald J. Buschur, president and chief executive officer of Powerwave.

“Government agencies need ubiquitous network coverage — a concept Powerwave calls ‘inside-out’ networking, which is driving demand for wireless infrastructure for a wide range of applications, both indoors and outdoors,” said Khurram P. Sheikh, chief product and development officer of Powerwave.

Powerwave’s products that meet this market demand include the RapidFlex™ mobile deployment unit (RMDU), a mobile communication infrastructure solution supporting preparedness, responsiveness and recovery for emergency and disaster communications and mobile data and command centers, satellite communications backhaul and ship-to-shore communications.

Powerwave offers 4G infrastructure products, including antennas, TMAs, MCPAs, and radios heads, along with complementary service and software solutions that are designed to reduce deployment costs, complexity, and provide government agencies with distinctive time-to-market advantage.

Powerwave customers benefit from real world deployment experience, which greatly reduces the overall risk involved when deploying these highly dynamic and complex next-generation networks.

The company also offers distributed-antenna systems (DAS) and other coverage solutions for assured RF communications that can be deployed in land mobile radio (LMR) and cellular networks within campuses, office buildings, remote locations, training ranges, underground facilities and tunnels.
