IR LEDs

TT electronics OPTEK Technology has developed an infrared LED mounted in a 0805 chip package. The OP200 devices are GaAlAs infrared LEDs (880 nm wavelength), packaged in a 0805 chip with a flat molded lens, which provides a wide beam angle and an evenly distributed emission pattern. Electrical performance of the OP200 is characterized at 30 V reverse voltage, 1.5 V forward voltage, 50 mA continuous forward current and power dissipation of 130 mW at 25° C. The device produces 0.2 mW/cm2 apertured power at 20 mA forward current. Suggested applications for the OP200 devices include non-contact position sensors, machine automation systems and miniature optical encoders. They are RoHS-compliant, as well as compatible with high temperature (260° C) lead-free soldering processes, and are rated for operation from – 25° C to +85° C.
