Software for Designing Outdoor Wireless Mesh Networks

Wireless Valley® Communications announces the availability of MeshPlanner™, a software product for designing outdoor wireless mesh networks that provide good coverage, redundancy and overall quality of service. With MeshPlanner, network designers visually develop the plan on their computer. The software recommends where to place access points (APs) for maximum coverage and ease of installation, predicts how the landscape will impact the signal and simulates the coverage to be delivered. The result is a network with resiliency, redundancy and performance along with reduced labor and planning costs and quicker implementation. To complete a design with MeshPlanner, the user first imports a map of the area and identifies buildings, trees and other obstructions that impact the wireless signal. APs are then added, links between APs within the mesh network are modeled and APs which will have wired backhaul are determined. To complete the design, the user runs various simulations to check coverage areas, redundancy, links between APs and AP connections. If any design factors are not met, MeshPlanner highlights which areas need to be adjusted and corrections are made.
