Thermal Simulation Process

Hybricon, Inc. introduces a thermal simulation process that cools an ATR form-factor chassis that dissipates almost 200 W and operates at altitudes up to 50,000 feet. The process evaluates a range of possible design configurations, focusing on heat sink design and fan performance at high altitudes. It identifies alternative designs to meet customers' requirements. Flotherm software automatically sets up each design iteration, and it simulates flow velocity and temperatures throughout the enclosure. Thermal requirements can be met by optimizing the heat sink design to get the last bit of cooling out of the limited mass of air that could be drawn through the chassis at high altitude.
