Powerwave Technologies Inc. has announced its Remote Radio Head (RRH), that range in frequency from 1,700 MHz to 2,100 MHz. The UMTS RRH integrates base station components including the transmitter, multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA), receivers, low-noise amplifiers and duplexer into a single, compact, weatherproof enclosure. The RRH also offers output power and weight, providing a 20 W solution at 16 kg (35.2 lbs.). Features include convection cooling and an ingress protection rating of 65, improving the reliability of the system by eliminating fans and providing protection from the natural elements. With this remote radio head technology, radio equipment can be relocated from a cabinet to remote and previously inaccessible locations where signals can be transmitted to the base-station via fiber optic cable.
