PMIC Targets AM-OLED Displays

Maxim Integrated Products' MAX17065 power-management IC (PMIC) performs in AM-OLED displays in cell phones, digital still cameras (DSCs), mp3 players and other consumer products. The device consists of a step-up DC/DC converter, an inverting DC/DC converter, regulated positive and negative charge pumps and a low-dropout linear regulator (LDO). The step-up converter provides a fixed 5.35-V output with up to 94% efficiency, while the inverting converter provides an adjustable -0.50-V to -5-V output with up to 83% efficiency. Each switching converter has a cycle-by-cycle current limit, selectable SKIP and forced-PWM modes, and a selectable switching frequency of 600 kHz/1.20 MHz. The output voltage of the positive charge pump can be programmed between 5.50 V and 9 V, while the negative charge pump can be programmed between -0.50 V and -5 V. The LDO provides a 1.9-V output for loads up to 60 mA. Input supply is from 2.3 to 4.5 V.
