High Efficiency DC/DC Converters

Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX8640Y/ MAX8640Z, small 500 mA, high-efficiency step-down DC/DC converters in a SC70 package. These devices are suitable for applications where small size, high efficiency and low output ripple are priorities. They utilize a proprietary switching scheme to reduce external component size and draw only 24 mA of quiescent current, thus providing desirable light-load efficiency. This combination of small size and high efficiency makes them a solution for generating low-voltage microprocessor core supplies for cell phones, smartphones and similar portable applications.
