System On a Chip
Ember announces the EM250, a ZigBee system-on-a-chip, Ember’s second-generation ZigBee software stack called EmberZNet 2.0 (which is also its fifth generation mesh networking stack), as well as software tools for application development and debugging. The Ember EM250 is a 802.15.4-based semiconductor system built to be ZigBee compliant that integrates a programmable microprocessor, RF radio, network protocol stack and memory into a single-chip solution. The 2.4 GHz EM250 offers OEMs and systems integrators building ZigBee-enabled products reductions in component size, cost and power consumption. In addition, the EM250 solution set enables a ZigBee-compliant network node with "location awareness," which allows for easy commissioning, management and network sub-segmentation. Ember’s new hardware is complemented by EmberZNet 2.0, a new release of Ember’s networking stack. EmberZNet 2.0 supports application profiles for home controls as well as user-defined network applications. It also features an Ember transport layer to provide wireless communications between nodes and enable distributed bindings.
