Positioning Solution

SiGe Semiconductor announces a Global Positioning System (GPS) solution to address the performance, size, and battery life requirements of cellular phones. The SE8901 GPS receiver system is based on an architecture that allows cellular handset manufacturers to support location based services at a low price. The receiver IC integrates a GPS radio, GPS processing accelerator, high-performance on-chip LNA, and image reject mixer in a compact 4 × 6 mm package. The device is supplied with software that supports a range of safety and navigation services without overloading the host processor. Equipped with Silent Tracking and other power management features, the receiver IC and software ensure that users have access to positioning information without impacting the cellular phone battery life.
