MIMO’s Challenges When Evaluating WiMAX Equipment

WiMAX employs Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology to improve system performance by either increasing signal-to-noise ratio or data throughput or both. Implementation of MIMO requires an unprecedented collaboration of RF and high-speed digital signal processing technologies and complex software and presents new challenges for design engineers at all levels of product development. While a complete description of the tests would indeed be lengthy, a summary of the various MIMO-related tests in WiMAX may be instructive for designers of WiMAX systems and subsystems.
