Digital Signal Processor

Texas Instruments announces its TMS320C6418 digital signal processor (DSP) at 500 MHz. This device features a combination of performance, memory and peripherals for applications such as telecommunications, software radio and broadcast equipment. The C6418 DSP offers an extended case temperature range of – 40° C to 105° C, enabling applications to function under harsh environmental conditions. TI is also announcing that the standard temperature TMS320C6418 DSP is now in volume production at 600 MHz. The DSP provides a balance of resources designed for the needs of advanced digital communications. Featuring 512 kB of level-two (L2) cache, the device at 500 MHz can achieve 2000, 16-bit million multiply accumulate cycles (MMACs) per second or 4000, 8-bit MMACs per second peak performance.
