Hot Swap Power Managers
Texas Instruments announces positive high voltage hot swap power managers with programmable power limit and current limit functions. Simplifying high voltage system design, the new 10-pin, 3 × 5 mm controllers take advantage of TI's new 0.7-μm silicon-on-insulator analog process to ensure complete MOSFET safe operating area (SOA) protection. The TPS2490 and TPS2491 hot swap managers are suited to support and protect emerging positive voltage distributed power systems that operate between 9 V and 80 V, such as 12-V, 24-V and 48-V server backplanes, storage area networks, medical systems, plug-in modules and wireless base stations. Key features include: programmable power limiting and current limiting; wide operating range: +9 V to +80 V (100 V maximum); high-side drive for low-RDS(on) external N-Channel MOSFET; latched operation (TPS2490) and automatic retry (TPS2491); fast current limit to protect input distribution during output short; programmable fault timer to eliminate nuisance shutdowns; power good open-drain output that provides downstream DC/DC coordination; programmable undervoltage lockout/logic enable to allow source low voltage shutdown or system level logic control.
