Taiyo Yuden’s WK series of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) employ “reverse geometry” terminations and other design improvements to provide impressive performance relative to device size. The series maximum capacitance values are, respectively, 0.47 µF, 4.7 µF and 10 µF in the 0402, 0603 and 0805 case sizes. The reverse-geometry MLCCs are so named because their length-to-width ratio has been reversed. Forming the electrodes on the long dimension of the device, instead of end-wise, widens and shortens the current path between terminations, thus reducing inductance and resistance.
