Synchronous Step-Down Regulator Delivers 2.5 A

The LTC3603 from Linear Technology Corporation is a 3 MHz synchronous buck regulator that uses a constant frequency, current mode architecture. It can deliver up to 2.5 A of continuous output current at output voltages as low as 0.6 V from a 4 × 4 mm QFN or a thermally enhanced MSOP-16 package. The regulator operates from an input voltage from 4.5 to 15 V, making it suitable for dual cell Li-Ion applications and 12 V fixed rail systems. Its switching frequency is user-programmable from 300 kHz to 3 MHz, enabling the use of low-cost capacitors and inductors. The regulator uses internal switches with RDS(ON) of 45 and 85 m? to deliver efficiencies as high as 95%.
