Fujitsu’s Macrocell Base Station Wins System Design Award at WiMAX

Fujitsu's BroadOne WX300™ macrocell base station has received the prestigious System Design Award at WiMAX World EMEA. The annual awards, which are presented in six categories, recognize leaders in the development and deployment of WiMAX technologies and are presented by a judging panel of experts from the WiMAX community.

"On behalf of WiMAX World, I congratulate Fujitsu for winning this year's WiMAX World EMEA Award in System Design," said Berge Ayvazian, conference co-chair and chief strategy officer for Yankee Group. "WiMAX World Award winners truly represent the best and brightest WiMAX technology, services and network implementations in the world."

The BroadOne WX300 mobile WiMAX base station is among the smallest, most power-efficient in the industry and ideal for operators looking for a quick in-service solution with easy installation and maintenance. Fujitsu designed the base station with many features to meet the global requirements for mobile WiMAX networks.

The BroadOne WX300 outdoor macro base station features world-class efficiency and performance. The unit's high-output amplifier uses a gallium-nitride (GaN) High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) device that was developed based on ultra-high-speed transistor technology invented by Fujitsu. This device is coupled with Fujitsu digital pre-distortion technology, which already has a proven track record in 3G systems, to create two high-output power transceivers packaged in a single unit. The adoption of advanced amplifier technology allows the base station to weigh approximately 40 pounds, allowing tower, pole or building-top installation by a single person.

The winners were selected by an independent judging panel, including Craig Mathias, principal, Farpoint Group; Will Strauss, principal analyst, Forward Concepts; Adlane Fellah, CEO and founder, Maravedis Inc.; Caroline Gabriel, lead research analyst, Rethink Research; Philip Marshall, vice president of enabling technologies, Yankee Group; and representatives from xchange and Trendsmedia.
