Stereo Audio Switch Eliminates Clicks and Pops
Intersil's ISL54406 stereo audio switch is said to eliminate unwanted clicks and pops typically caused by powering up and down, muting on and off, and switching between audio sources. The unit performs in mp3 players, docking speaker systems, cell phones, portable DVD players and sound cards. The component delivers total harmonic distortion (THD) of 0.015% at 1 mW into a 32-Ω load. The THD switching path can be interrupted to provide >110 dB of off-isolation for signal muting purposes into 32-Ω impedance loads. Recovery from muting is instantaneous, and the instant-on capability needs no timing capacitor and requires 7 mA of supply current. Active and standby modes of operation are offered with the standby mode reducing the supply current to 5 nA max.
