Quadrature Hybrids
Merrimac has introduced the Zapper series of miniature quadrature hybrids that provide 3 dB, 90° coupling and are drop-in replacements for hybrids used in wireless base station amplification, but have twice the power handling ability and operating life. They are available in an H package (0.56 inches× 0.35 inches× 0.75 inches) and smaller SH package (0.56 inches× 0.20 inches× 0.075 inches), and cover 800 MHz to 2.3 GHz in bands. Their reliability is a result of lower case (operating) temperatures than any hybrid of the same size, which also allows them to accept RF inputs of 325 W and 250 W respectively. They have a Failure In Time (FIT) rating of 0.27, which translates to 0.27 failures over 1 billion operating hours. Typical specifications for the larger 2.1 GHz H package model include insertion loss of less than 0.15 dB, amplitude balance of ± 0.2 dB, phase balance of 90 ± 2 deg., and isolation of 26 dB.
