Bluetooth Software Stack Addresses Automotive Telematics Apps

Sybase iAnywhere and Marvell Semiconductor are collaborating in developing an embedded Bluetooth software stack for wireless communication utilizing 802.11 Alternate MAC/PHY technology. This new iAnywhere® Blue SDK (Software Developer Kit), along with support for the Marvell 88W8688 WLAN plus Bluetooth single chip solution and future Marvell devices, is being designed to help speed new automotive telematics applications to market. It will add feature sets to adhere to the current draft of the next Bluetooth specification (code named “Seattle”) including:

• Establishment of connections using high-speed 802.11 based hardware through the AMP Manager (Alternate MAC/PHY)
• Logical Link Control Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP) capability required for managing both Bluetooth and 802.11 radio connections
•Support for popular profiles, such as hands-free and audio streaming, and efficient data transfer between mobile devices

The collaboration expects this implementation to be compliant with the final Bluetooth “Seattle” specification when it achieves ratification in mid-2009.
