Blogger Buys 1.1 Million Facebook User Emails for $5

Bulgarian blogger Bogomil Shopov wrote Tuesday that he had purchased a spreadsheet containing 1.1 million Facebook user IDs and email addresses for $5. The data was allegedly scraped by third-party applications and offered for sale on a website called Gigbucks by a user named “mertem.” Shopov verified that the emails did correspond to the Facebook user IDs, most of them private.

Worldwide handset shipments decreased 1.9% YoY to 387.3 million units in Q3 2012, according to new data from market intelligence firm ABI Research. Worldwide smartphone shipments increased 32.8% YoY to 155.5 million over the same period. Samsung retained the lead position in both handset and smartphone shipments.

  Yahoo has acquired the company behind 1-year-old mobile recommendations app Stamped , its first since ex-Google exec Marissa Mayer became CEO of the company in July. The acquisition was purely for talent: Stamped’s nine-person team — of which five are ex-Google employees — will be joining a new mobile product team to be established in New York under the leadership of Stamped’s three co-founders, I’m told.

Google is currently taking pictures for Google Maps where no car or snowmobile has gone before — the rocky, rugged trekking paths of the Grand Canyon. A Google team is on foot in to capture the landscape’s panoramic views and eventually add them to Google Maps. The move is a part of a greater effort to capture images beyond the streets.
