Evergreen Solar, Inc., a manufacturer of String Ribbon™ solar panels with its proprietary silicon wafer technology, recently unveiled its upcoming line of higher efficiency solar panels featuring its newly developed BOOST™ Cell Technology, at Intersolar 2010 in Munich, Germany. The new ES-D and ES-E series of panels for residential and commercial markets feature Evergreen’s new Boost cell technology that uses micro wires instead of conventional bus-bars to reduce cell shading, improve current collection and ultimately increase the overall panel efficiency.
Siemens Energy and Prysmian Powerlink will connect two North Sea offshore wind farms to the German grid using a high voltage direct current (HVDC) link for transpower. The order awarded to the BorWin2 consortium is worth more than €500 millio. The Veja Mate and Global Tech 1 offshore wind farms, which will have a combined power generating capacity of 800 MW, will be connected to the grid via a submarine cable link carrying HVDC.
National Semiconductor Corp. recently announced that it has reached new deals related to its SolarMagic technology with Green Energy Solar (GESolar) and QC Solar. SolarMagic monitors and maximizes the energy harvest of each individual PV panel through a combination of advanced algorithms and leading-edge mixed-signal technology.
Following a record-breaking year of capacity additions in 2009 - with 9.8 GW of wind projects installed - the US wind market finds itself confronting a growth-constrained 2010 and a near-term market landscape wrought with increased competition, according to a new market study, US Wind Power Markets and Strategies: 2010-2025 from IHS Emerging Energy Research.
WASHINGTON- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is recognizing three universities with the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) awards for generating power and thermal energy while saving energy, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and decreasing air pollution, which can reduce impacts on the public’s health.
Washington, D.C., -- A new energy bill introduced by Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind) wisely uses energy efficiency as the core of its provisions, the Alliance to Save Energy said today. The Lugar Practical Energy and Climate Plan focuses on money-saving efficiency policies designed to create long-term energy savings for cars and trucks, new buildings and appliances, existing homes and commercial buildings and industry.
DEVENS, Mass.,(BUSINESS WIRE) -- American Superconductor Corporation, a global power technologies company, announces in conjunction with Global Wind Day 2010 that it has achieved a significant milestone by supporting the production of more than 15,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power worldwide with its proprietary power electronic solutions.
Ken Hartman, Connor-Winfield With the recent surge in popularity of WiMax wireless broadband solutions for home and business, the best and brightest WiMax equipment providers are busy investigating and implementing the newest technologies available for their next generation products.
By Ray Chadwick, Berkeley Varitronics Systems, Inc. WiMAX signals suffer from the effects of multipath and exhibit broadband fading characteristics that are very apparent in the spectrum of the received WiMAX signal (see Figure 1). It’s not a trick; OFDM modulation does not eliminate fading and is not always received with a flat spectrum.
After three years of deliberation, the IEEE802.16m air interface definition will be ready for prime time in the next few months. This critical step toward creating true 4G cellular technology based on WiMAX is important enough to earn compliant products a new name: WiMAX 2. Further proof came last month, when an impressive subset of the WiMAX community created the WiMAX 2 Collaboration Initiative to "improve the economics of mobile broadband" and "to create a better value chain for service providers.
By Kevin Donoghue, President of Telesoft What is Telecom Expense Management? Getting wireless costs under control is becoming an ever-increasing concern for business executives in the midst of our struggling economy. Now more than ever, business use of telecom services is continually increasing, often resulting in over spending and overbilling due to inefficient processes.
By Keith Anderson, Agilent Technologies click to enlarge Figure 1. NVNA block diagram. High-power RF amplifiers are used in telecommunications, biomedical, and military systems. With output power levels ranging up to 1kW, these amplifiers are typically designed to operate near or into compression in order to provide the maximum output power possible.
