TDK-EPC Introduces Flyback Transformers Based on Low-Profile EFD Cores

TDK-EPC, a group company of TDK Corporation, announces a new series of EPCOS-developed compact SMD flyback transformers for space-saving power supplies. The designs are based on low-profile SMT EFD15, EFD20 and EFD25 core sizes, which permit insertion heights of only 8.65 to 14.8 mm, depending on the transformer type.

The new B82802 series covers the power range between 12W and 55W. These SMD flyback transformers are suited for input voltages of between 36V and 60V at a clock frequency of 100 kHz with a duty ratio of up to 50 percent. In the standard versions, the output power id divided among two or three windings. This results in voltages of 3.3 V at currents of 1.2 to 3.3 A; 5 V at 0.8 to 5.5 A; and 12 V at 0.5 to 2.3 A. Customer-specific configurations of the output voltages and power are also possible.

The transformers are designed for an operating temperature between -40°C and +125°C and tested for breakdown at 1500V AC.

Benefits include:

* Low-profile SMT packages

* Industry standard footprints

* Up to three output voltages (5 V and 12 V or 3.3 V; 5V; and 12V)

* Suitability for ambient temperatures up to +85° C and operating temperature up to +125°

* 1500 V AC isolation voltage.

Main applications are DC-DC converters (isolated buck) for industrial and consumer electronics as well as communications technology and Power over Ethernet (PoE).
