Innovative Energy Storage and Power Delivery Solution from Richardson Electronics

About the size of a can of soda, each K2 Series BOOSTCAP® cell operates at 2.7 volts and delivers high performance, durability and long operating lifetime. Primary applications for Maxwell's K2 Series products (cells range from 650 to 3,000 Farads) include automotive subsystems, hybrid and electric vehicle drive trains, renewable energy systems, back-up power, grid stabilization, electric rail system power and many other transportation and industrial applications that require burst power and heavy cycling (which cannot be efficiently provided by a battery or power supply alone).

These BOOSTCAP cells are an ideal source of back-up and pulse power. They improve overall power availability, allowing critical system functions to remain available during dips, sags, and outages in a power supply, or even during battery change. In applications where power is needed in spikes, the K2 Series provides a “green” power solution to reduce peak power demands on the grid, the batteries or the generator.

These new ultracapacitors also work in parallel with batteries for applications that require both a constant low power discharge capability (for continual function) and a pulse power capability (for peak loads). In these applications, the ultracapacitors relieve the batteries during peak load periods. This in turn results in an extension of battery life (longer use before replacement), reduced battery maintenance requirements, and a reduction of overall battery size and cost.

Individual K2 cells (in production volumes) are now available as well as multi-cell modules with working voltage ranging from 16 to 125 volts. Datasheets and K2 Ultracapacitors are available now from Richardson Electronics, 1-800-737-6937 (North America); or find your local sales engineer worldwide at www.rell.com/RFPD
