CDMA Handset Antenna Switch

TriQuint Semiconductor introduces a high-power antenna switch for CDMA applications. The product, TQP4M3019, is supplied in a 2 × 2 mm, 12-lead STSLP package. The part, in SP3T (single-pole, triple-throw) configuration, provides good cross-modulation and isolation performance while exhibiting low insertion loss in all frequency bands (PCS, cellular and GPS). The size of the new switch satisfies customers' needs for phone board space as the industry drives toward slim-line handset design. The TQP4M3019 is engineered to provide a low-current replacement for classic PIN-diode-based switches. This switch incorporates the company's 2G pHEMT GaAs MMIC process technology.


The TQP4M3019 is designed for applications in which the antenna of a CDMA handset is routed to the cellular duplexer, the PCS duplexer and the GPS receiver input. The design is symmetric and broadband, which allows the user to assign cellular, PCS and GPS to the three RF ports as desired for optimum handset board layout.


Benefits of the TQP4M3019 include competitive CDMA RF and DC performance over temperature, process and voltage. Key specifications include: cellular and GPS insertion loss of 0.5 dB, PCS insertion loss of 0.6 dB, cellular isolation of 27 dB, GPS isolation of 24 dB, PCS isolation of 22 dB, cellular cross-modulation of – 108 dBm and PCS cross-modulation – 105 dBm. The switch's ESD rating for HBM is 300 V and for CDM is 2000 V. The device also has low control input requirements: current at 10 uA and control voltage at +2.6, 0.0 V.

Thanks to the product's size and high performance, it's also seeing applications in diversity antenna switching for upcoming WCDMA handsets.
